Owen Smith, Lian Brott, Bruce Burling and Malcolm Sexton

Assistant District Governor Chris Burrows presented a District Appreciation Award to PP Owen Smith for his work as President last year and also for his work with Shelterbox.

Three of our members, Lian Brott, Bruce Burling and Malcolm Sexton were honoured with Rotary Foundation District Service Awards for their contributions to the Motuti Marae Carving School. ADG Chris Burrows emphasized as only a limited number of awards are made it was not possible to include everyone who worked so hard on this project.
Lian Brott
Lian Brott received a a Paul Harris Fellow Award from the Rotary Club of Kerikeri at the club meeting on the 9 August 2010. Her service to the community through the Bahá’í Faith and Rotary was particularly noted. Of particular note was her commitment to establishing the Motuti Carving Centre. It was completed in February this year. The first carving course with 13 male and female youths enrolled is currently underway at Motuti much to the delight of the Club.
Steve & Brenda De Ruiter and Pete & Tissi Hendl
President John Toms had great pleasure in awarding the owner managers of the Kerikeri REAL team Mr and Mrs Steve and Brenda De Ruiter, and Mr and Mrs Pete and Tissi Hendl with a Community Service award for their ongoing support of numerous community initiatives such as the building and auctioning of a house last year to raise money for our local Hospice.
REAL has kindly donated the use of a lock up storage unit for all the Club’s paraphernalia. This is helping keep all our signage, safety and other equipment centralized in one place.

Bruce Waterman
In March 2010, the Kerikeri Rotary Club was delighted to welcome into its membership Mr. Bruce Waterman.

Bruce, a former fencing contractor and weed eradicator, has also spent (miss-spent) some years selling real estate in Auckland but finally came back to his senses and returned to where he feels most at home. It's great to have him back!
Dale Simkin
In December 2009, president Owen Smith was delighted to award longtime Rotarian Dale Simkin with a well deserved Paul Harris Fellowship for his service to Rotary, crowned by his contribution to the Rotary barbeques in the Kerikeri Basin.

Rick Stacey
Rick Stacey joined the membership of our Club in 2010 as a swallow who spends half the year in the UK and the other half in NZ.

Rick has become a familiar sight on the roads around Kerikeri as he gets fit for his Bluff to Cape Reinga bike ride to raise the profile of the world-wide ShelterBox Rotary project. more>>>
